my name is Irene, I lived on Malden road, when Howard lived there a lot of years ago. I remember when Howard was on the police force, he finger printed some of us kids in the neighbourhood for practise. He was a great man, very kind. I used to baby sit his son also. I have a photo of us lying on the blanket outside on the front lawn, me and Michael, he was probably only at the crawling stage then. I am sending good thoughts to be with you. in Kind regards

Howard has been a stalwart at our 'ceillidhs' for the last 3 years. His powerful voice and guitar playing made him a great favourite. He will be sorely missed by us all as a fine gentleman and musician. Our sympathies go to all the family. David Middleton, Wendy Godden , Bob Turner and others. London, Ont.

BARB, I had the honour of meeting Howard, as I was his hairstylist. He had the most beautiful, thickest white hair ever and joked he had enough hair for two people especially for his age. He would tell me stories of the years on the police force, what his next project was he was working on in his paint room, how he strummed along in his band, and about his wife Barb.He was so proud of it all. I could listen to the history for hours. HOWARD..I will always remember the deep voice and great stories and laughs, you will be deeply missed. BABB- God Bless You.

Howard's passing is more than the loss of a husband, father, and grandfather. It is the loss of a talented artist, an accomplished musician, a teacher, a mentor, and a friend. My condolences go to those that knew him, both friend and family. Howard’s passing will leave a void in many peoples life. I am honored to have been a part of his family, and to have had him as a part of my life.

Howard & Barb lived beside me for a couple of years. Howard was a very talented man. In the summer I used to sit on my deck and listen to him play his guitar from inside his house. I got to see his awesome paintings that he had done over the years. I also was entertained by his stories and his great sense of humour. My heart goes out to you Barb and to your family. I know he will be missed deeply by all that knew him. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Howard always inspired me. I was always amazed at his quick sketches that were very detailed pictures when he was done. He gave me some lessons in drawing and painting. It was always one of those things I wanted to do and never found the time. My sketch book and pencils are out...the time to start is now. You will be missed Howard....Love Mick, Eric and Carly

My husband and I met Howard at University Hospital in March of 2010 he was wearing a green ball cap with a lucky 4 leaf clover on one side and a USA flag on the other side but it was the Detroit Red Wings on the front of the cap that caught my attention, I had never seen the cap in green and I knew my Mom would love that hat as she is part Irish, (me too and I've been looking for the hat to purchase two of them ever since) he asked me to sit with him and I did, Howard met my husband that day too.

Both my husband and I work at University Hospital so we got to know Howard's schedule and we sat with him prior to our work shifts and him going to his dialysis every Monday, Wednesday and Friday's, we enjoyed being with him as much as we could, we loved listening to him tell stories of his police work, his painting, his cottege up North, his band and of course his family, we both had something in common from the start we both worked for the Canadian Bank of Commerce, Howard in Toronto and myself in London, all of this was done as he ejoyed his morning cup of Timmy's coffee with a old fashion plain donut and one of the same glazed, some days he would change it up depending on how he was feeling. We shared some great laughs, the best laughs were when he would come up with a new line/excuse to tell the nurses why he was late getting to his dialysis even though his nurses always saw him sitting with my husband and I in the lobby, the best excuse was always his bus was late!!
We truly enjoyed every second we spent with him, we continued to learn more about just how talented Howard was right up to the last time we both saw him. John and I are so blessed for meeting him, talking to him and helping him out his last few weeks getting his coffee and donuts for him so he didn't have to stand in the Timmy's line up which was at times too exhausting.
To his family please accept our deepest condolences for this profound loss in your lives, he was truly an awesome man, John and I will be forever truly grateful to have been able to meet this incredible man and to have shared in his life although too short in time.
Please know we both miss him so much.

Sincerely and compassionately,
Angela and John Corman,
London, Ontario.

Howard and I met and worked as partners on sandwich west police for a number of years. Howard introduced me to his love of Irish music being a guitar player myself it was an instant match. We performed together many times. Howard also introduced me to lake Temagami where we both became property owners and fishing buddies. He was the best of the best. He was a true intertainer and accomplished song writer and a true friend. I will miss my old Irish buddy till we meet and tip one back again. My heart goes out to Barb and the family. So sorry Barb to hear of your loss. Losing a loved one is always difficult but even more so this time of the year. I pray you find the strength to get through this hard time. I also regret not being able to make it to Howard's funeral. I've recently had surgery on my (rt) hand and I am in a cast and the doctor has taken away my driving privileges for the duration. Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I met him in 1954 - OPP Detachment, Sandwich West Twp. We went from there to Sandwich West PD, then Windsor PD. Howard was a straight-up guy, as honest and open as they come - he was a good cop (only other cops are entitled to use this expression...) We sang and played together as The Brothers-in-Law with Larry Reaume and Ken Clarke. Howard wrote and arranged some of the melodies for my lyrics. Our first LP, 'Oh Oh Canada sold 275,000+ copies. Howard was a sensitive and creative person (you never know what's behind a badge, eh?) He will be missed and I'm sorry to see him go. He was one of the good guys. From Alec Somerville, Donegal, Republic of Ireland. I never knew he was younger than me, or I would have kidded him about it...

As a young hockey player and budding official, role models come from many places. Mr. Duffy was able to give me a perspective on how to deal with people from a police officers point of view that certainly applied to hockey officiating. As someone who hung around the LaSalle arena quite a bit, to have Howard there to chat about hockey and life served me well during my time as an official in the NHL.

I remember Howard from 35 or so years ago from the Windsor Flying Club. Howard was also a very good and accomplished private pilot. He was a very nice man who was a joy to be around. Rest peacefully my friend.

Howard and I met at the Windsor Flying Club and we made friends right away. We flew together, fished together locally and also at his cabin on Lake Temiskaming. He had a great sense of humour and loved to sing and play his guitar. I learned to play along with Howard and we spent many hours “jamming” and singing together along with our wives at his home and ours. Howard was a good cop. I could tell by his philosophy and his common sense and wisdom of life that he had gained. Howard was an accomplished artist and I still have a painting he did of the Bank of Montreal corner at Dalhousie and Richmond in Amherstburg that he did. It is still hanging in our front room and will stay there as a tribute to our friendship. Rest in Peace Howard. Bob and Nancy Janisse, Tecumseh Ont.

My first recollections of Howard was some years back when he had his art store on Duke Street in Kitchener. Sonia went to him for art lessons and learned more about art from him than I could ever learn in 100 years. They became not teacher and student but good friends. I remember one cold winter going with my wife to his store and he was handing out winter gloves for the street people and any one that needed them. He gave me a pair and I think I still have them. It is often said that an individual was a good person when they were alive. Howard was, indeed, such a person. Our only regret is, that in these later years, we did not get down to London often enough to see him and sit and talk with him. He will be fondly remembered and very much missed by Sonia & myself.
