Raymond F. Flaig
Raymond F. Flaig, 85, of Stevens Point, died Thursday July 18, 2013 at Ministry St. Michael's Hospital. He was under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice. Raymond was born on November 11, 1927 in Stevens Point.
He was the son of the late Joseph & Emma (Langer) Flaig.
He attended local schools. In 1944 he served with the Merchant Marines, then he entered the service on April 4, 1946 at Fort Sheridan Illinois. He served in the army and received the World War II Victory Medal. He was honorably discharged on September 13, 1947.
His marriage to Ramona Koback took place on July 8, 1946 at St. Peter Catholic Church. Ramona died on February 25, 2011.
Raymond worked for the city of Stevens Point beginning in 1950. In 1963 he became Street superintendent, he worked 40 years for the city retiring in 1990. Prior to working for the city, Ray worked for Flaigs roofing and heating.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Council 1170, American Legion Post 6 and Moose Family Center. He enjoyed hunting and camping, loved playing pool, horse shoes, bingo and enjoyed traveling.
He is survived by a daughter, Linda (Jerry) Pionek of Stevens Point. Two sons, Jim (Terri) Flaig of Wisconsin Rapids and Dale (JoAnne) Flaig of Sun Prairie. 15 Grandchildren, Kris (Tracy) Marchel, Stephanie (Lee) Faucher, Scott (Danielle) Flaig, Josh Marchel, Jennifer Flaig, Kara (Steven) Bradford, Matt (Amanda) Flaig, Kimberly Flaig, Jason Schauer, Brenda (John) Mallek, Jessica (Brian) Holberg, Tricia Fancher, Philip (Heidi) Pionek, Ryan (Jessica) Pionek and Ashley Pionek. 22 Great Grandchildren, Kylie, KayBri, Caleb, Suzette, Connor, Garrett, Jacob, Elizabeth, Christopher, Nicholas, Anthony, Morgan, Levi, Brooke, Brenden, Owen, Griffen, Phoebe, Nathan, Ashton, Matthew and Brenton.
Brother, Walter (Lillian) Flaig of Rudolph. Sister, Helen Niemczak of Stevens Point.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph & Joseph. Sisters, Christine Snow, Emma Grover, Catherine Czlapinski and Evelyn Isherwood. One granddaughter, Carissa.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday July 22, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church. Rev. Dennis Stanchik officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow in the Guardian Angel Cemetery. Visitation on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Pisarski/Dzikoski Funeral Home 703 Second Street and again on Monday from 9:30a.m. until time of service in the St. Faustina room at the church. American Legion ritual at 6:00 p.m. Moose ritual at 6:15 p.m. and the Knights of Columbus will combine with the parish rosary at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
