Nekoosa - Arnold Brost, age 92, of Nekoosa, died peacefully in his sleep, Thursday May 10, 2018 at Hilltop on Pepper Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, May 18, 2018 at Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home in Nekoosa. Rev. John Swing will officiate with military rites provided by Nekoosa VFW Post 5960. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday from 12:00 PM until the time of service. Online condolences may be expressed at

Arnie was born June 16, 1925 in Green Bay to Lambert and Anna (Karbowski) Brost. He served in the US Navy in the South Pacific Theatre from 1943 to 1946. He married Shirley Buehler on November 6, 1946 in Nekoosa. She died April 25, 2013. Arnie was employed in the office Nekoosa Papers, Inc. (Domtar) for many years in the areas of accounting and land description.

Arnie was very active in his community. He was a member of the Nekoosa Fire Department, Nekoosa Ambulance Department and Nekoosa School Board for many years. He was also a longtime member of the Nekoosa VFW. After retiring, he connected and became involved with a Submarine Vet group. An avid outdoorsman, Arnie enjoyed hunting (especially at the "Deer Camp"), fishing and golfing. He and his family enjoyed curling where he attended and won many Bonspiels.

He is survived by his children Joyce (Phil) Deffenbaugh of Nekoosa, Dick (Linda) Brost of Manawa, George (Mary Sue) Brost of Lee Center, NY, Donald (Tonya) Brost of Nekoosa, Amy (Mark) Hall of Nekoosa and (like a daughter) Shawn (Dan) Joling of Kronenwetter; 11 grandchildren Shane (Mackenzie) Deffenbaugh, Ryan (Johanna) Brost, Jeremy (Kailene) Brost, Anna (Will) Fanning, Meghan (Audie) Young, Jenny (Matt) Gibbs, Rachel (Jeff) Johnson, Ashley (Matt) Walton, James Brost, Ben (Hannah) Hall and Sara Hall (Mat Schmidt); 20 great grandchildren; his sisters Geraldine Gerken, Madeline Stensberg, and Laverne Denis and his brothers William (Gayl) Brost and Donald (Donna) Brost.

Arnie was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two brothers Leland and Allen Brost and his sister Florence Heller.
