Stevens Point - Correne Ann Gaboda

Correne was called to her eternal home on Thursday, December 28th, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.

Correne was born on October 3, 1957, in Somerset, PA to James and Jane (Mancl) Quinnell. She was raised in Wisconsin Rapids and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1975. She attended Mid-State Technical Institute and worked as a medical assistant at Marshfield Clinic. She later worked as the office assistant at Kennedy Elementary School in Junction City for 17 years. She thoroughly enjoyed her time there. The best part of her life, however, was being a mom to her favorite children, Tasha and Tony, and a gramma to Ava, Clay, Leo, and Baby G, due in February. She was an extraordinary mother and grandmother who would do anything for her kids and grandbabies!

Correne was also an amazing daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Her greatest joy was spending time with those she loved. She was the rock in our family and always took the time to stay in touch with all of us. Correne could always be found sending handmade encouraging notes and cards - with the perfect Bible verses - to the people she loved, whether for a special occasion or "just because". Her homemade rolls were the best, and she always had freshly baked cookies on hand when her grandkids came or when numerous friends stopped by, making sure those who entered her home felt welcome.

Correne so loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! She had a stronger faith than anyone else we knew, and was a spiritual mentor and encourager for everyone she met. Her faith never wavered, but only grew stronger, no matter what challenges she faced. Throughout her courageous 15-year battle with amyloidosis, she amazed and baffled her doctors. Although she was given 3 months to live at the time of her diagnosis, she miraculously survived a stem cell transplant, ruptured spleen, and kidney transplant in the years that followed. This allowed her to attend her children's weddings, become a wonderful gramma, travel to see the Redwoods, Grand Canyon, and Niagara Falls, and enjoy many, many holidays and special occasions with those she loved.

Correne lived her life so as to cherish every moment. She stayed focused on the positive as she celebrated the life God gave her here on earth. Despite all of the hurdles life threw her way, she always put others first, helping and encouraging in any way she could. Her contagious smile lit up the room, and her positive attitude and never-ending faith touched everyone around her. She left a lasting impression on us all, including the hospital staff, up to the very end. Her life was truly a testimony to the power of prayer, and her strength came from God.

She is survived by her children, Natasha (Rich) Kildow, Spooner, and Anthony (Rebecca) Gaboda, Stevens Point; her precious grandbabies, Ava and Clay Kildow, and Leo and "Baby G" Gaboda; her mom, Jane Quinnell, Wisconsin Rapids; 6 sisters, Sandy (Ken) Cekosh, Stevens Point, Vicky (Ron) Napiwocki, Stevens Point, Sara (Jan) Halbur, Wisconsin Rapids, Linda (Todd) Stone, Endeavor, Cindy Quinnell, Green Bay, and Ellen (Doug) Martin, Swansea, MA; 2 brothers, Mike (Juanita) Quinnell, Vesper, and Tim Quinnell, Wisconsin Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her dad, James Quinnell, and paternal and maternal grandparents.

Her family would like to thank the entire staff of Aspirus Wausau Hospital Cardiac ICU for the amazing and compassionate care they gave Correne during her last 5 weeks. In addition, we want to acknowledge Dr. Hari and the oncology staff, as well as the kidney transplant team of the Specialty Clinics of Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, and the anonymous kidney donor who enabled us to have another 7 years with Correne.

A visitation will be held at WOODLANDS CHURCH 190 Hoover Ave, Plover, WI from 10:00am - 1:00pm on Saturday, January 13th with a Celebration of Life service following at 1:00pm. Pisarski Funeral Home of Stevens Point are honored to be serving the family.

Should friends desire, contributions can be made and will be donated to an organization that would honor Correne's life and memory.

"Don't take a single day for granted. Take delight in each light-filled hour." Ecclesiastes 11:8
