Dorothy's complete obituary may be found at www.Tributes.com/Dorothy-Milkey

Dorothy was born Jul 25, 1933 in Southampton, England to the late George and Jessie (Hamon) Durrant.

Dorothy grew up during World War II in one of the busiest seaport cities. At 7 years old, she was part of the historic evacuation of children by the British Government, from the ship building areas and London, to the English countryside( New Forest) to keep them safe from the German bombings. Dorothy's separation from her parents lasted over three years. Her memories of this time have been recently published in a book by Pamela Sipple,"The Start of a Journey".

She moved to London and worked as an office secretary for Ford Motor Company and was quickly promoted to manager after only a short time.

In her 20's, she became a "war bride" when she met and married a "Yankee" named John, a US Army soldier. They and their infant son Jeffrey boarded a military transport ship to New York. After sailing through terrible seas, and battling seasickness while caring for their baby, they arrived in NY, and then settled in John's hometown of Nekoosa, Wisconsin.

Dorothy was an active parishioner at St. Lawrence Parish. They believed in a Catholic School education and made many sacrifices for their six children to attend.

They always spent summers by the Lake in Tomahawk with their children and beaglepoo Toby who would share a "spot of tea at tea time with mum". They also spent time with their six grandchildren at the Lake - especially Kendra (Plover) and Jenna (Neenah).

Dorothy's English family made many trips to the "States" - interesting to see reactions to a parade of British speaking folks while at local shops & "pubs".

After retirement, Dorothy and John wintered in AZ to be near family and grandchildren.

Survivors include: Jeffrey (Delia, Brandon & Johnathan), Mesa, AZ; Rebecca (Rick Kail)Milkey, San Diego; Bernadette Fortnum (Kendra, Jenna & Hunter) Crystal Lake, IL; Jonathan (Kelli & Mason), Seattle; and Andrew (Loretta, Kayla & Isaiah), Maricopa, AZ. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband John and son Anthony.

As one of the oldest of seven children, Dorothy cherished her English family. Survivor's include her brother, Keith (wife Linda) Durrant and sister, Yvonne Brookwell, both of Southampton, England. She was preceded in death by her sister's Jean, Sylvia, Karen and brother Tony.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude.
