Bredl, Gerald J.

Gerald J. "Jerry" "Jug" Bredl age 79, of Wisconsin Rapids, died Friday, April 7, 2017 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

A private funeral service was held on April 13, 2017. Father John Swing officiated and military rites were conducted by the Nekoosa VFW Post 5960.

Gerald was born December 27, 1937 in the town of Aurburndale, WI to Michael and Pat (Petronella Hasenohrl) Bredl. He attended Sacred Heart Grade School and Nekoosa High School. He served in the US Army stationed in Germany from 1955-1958 and in the Army Reserves from 1958-1961. He married Viola "Vi" Espersen on April 29, 1961 in Waukegan, IL. She passed away March 23, 2004. They were married 42 years.

Gerald worked at the Consolidated Paper Mill, Biron Division, in earlier years. He and his wife were owners and operators of Bredl Auto Supply and The Trophy Shop. Gerald also worked in the parts department at Brostrom-Kickert Chevy garage and was a custodian at the Nekoosa Middle School.

Gerald was a member of the National Rifle Association and Heart of Wisconsin Sportsman's Club. He raced stock car #41 throughout the state for many years and was still a racer at heart. He enjoyed rifle and bow hunting and especially fishing and many trips to Canada with his friend Bob Achenbach. Gerald and his wife raised Arabian horses and enjoyed endurance horse racing and winning many races in many states.

He is survived by his daughter Teri (Thomas) Gilbert; grandson Andrew; granddaughter Andrea (Ashis); and great granddaughter Lily; his sisters, Margaret (Vern) Markee, Waukegan, IL, Darlene (Harold) Hoffman, Alameda, CA, and Mary (Gary) Bohmsach, Wisconsin Rapids; his sisters in-law, Bess (Maurice) Ellis, MO, and Shirley Espersen, WI; his brother in-law David (Susan) Esperson, NC; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Gerald is further survived by lifelong friends; John Bovee and Bill Bowden, special friends Karl and Dawn Knuteson; and special neighbors and friends Roberta and Ryan.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife Vi, son Tommy, parents, grandparents, brothers Marvin and Wayne Bredl, sister Joan Kuehl, his nephews Randy Markee and Michael Kann, and his faithful dog Dusty.

Gerald will be sadly missed and long remembered by all who loved and knew him.

The family thanks all of his doctors and nurses and the Marshfield Clinics and Aspirus Hospital for the care they gave Gerald. Also Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home for their wonderful assistance and guidance.
