James H. Suzda Sr. Obituary
Suzda Sr., James H.

James H. Suzda, Sr., 73, Rudolph, passed away Sunday, May 7, 2017, at Orlando Regional Hospital in Florida while attending a Cheer competition at Disneyland with his granddaughter.

A memorial service for Jim will be held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Ritchay Funeral Home, 1950 12th Street South, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Rev. David Delaney will officiate. Per Jim's wishes, there will not be a viewing. Internment will be at a later date.

Jim was born June 29, 1943, in Chicago, son of John and Stella (Malsavage) Suzda.

Jim married the love of his life, Renee Pritchard, on October 9, 1965.

Jim moved with his family from Chicago to a farm near Rudolph in 1946. He graduated from Rudolph High School in 1961; served in the Army Reserve from 1960 to 1966, raising to the rank of Sergeant and Team Leader during the Berlin Call Up in 1961; was employed by Nekoosa Papers/Domtar from 1964 until his retirement, and was a self-employed wedding/family photographer from 1967 to 1981.

In his earlier years, Jim was a member of the St. Philip Parish Council, the Rudolph Lions Club and Cub Scout Master, and was a current member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and a current Trustee for the Village of Rudolph. Jim had a keen interest and knowledge in computers and created his own computer network, Rapid River BBS, a successful message board from 1990 until 2000 when the Internet took over.

He was known as "Grandpa Jim" in the Cheer world, to which his granddaughter belonged, helping out wherever needed. He attended every single competition the entire 7 years, most of which were out-of-state. He was the current president of the Booster Club and spent many hours organizing workers to man two food/beer stands at Lambeau Field for football games and other events. Jim was always there for neighbors and friends who called upon him to help with their computer problems or just about any mechanical problem. His main hobbies were woodworking, gardening, and photography.

Survivors include his wife Renee of 51 years; two sons: Jim Suzda, Jr. (Cindy), New Lisbon and Corey Suzda (Kim), Wisconsin Rapids; three grandchildren: Erica Suzda (Michael Gordon), Alicia and Christopher Suzda; sisters-in-law Jan Suzda, Carol Suzda, and Yvonne Adrian; brothers-in law, Andrew Pritchard and Daniel Steen, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a still-born son, Joseph; two brothers, John and Robert Suzda; his father and mother-in- law, Jess and Lola Pritchard; and sisters-in-law, Kathryn Penny and Jacqueline Steen.

Ritchay Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
