Martinson Francis, Jane E.

Jane E. Martinson Francis age 91, of Nekoosa, died Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, May 20, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nekoosa, with visitation from 10 AM until the time of the service. Rev. John Swing will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Online condolences may be expressed at

Jane was born December 18, 1925 in Wisconsin Rapids to Edward and Anna (Gaber) Klappa. The family moved to Nekoosa in 1930. Jane attended Sacred Heart Catholic Grade School and Alexander High School, graduating in 1944. She married Leonard J. Martinson on September 14, 1946. They had four children together and were later divorced. Jane continued her education in 1968, attending Wood County Normal until it closed. She then attended Wisconsin State University Stevens Point in the summers. She graduated in 1974 with a degree in primary education. Jane taught for 26 years at Sacred Heart School and several summer sessions at Humke Elementary, while raising her children.

She enjoyed horseback riding in her younger years, camping, fishing, reading and playing cards. Jane loved the Lord and belonged to a bible study and a Praise and Prayer Group. She married Louis Francis on June 25, 1994 in Nekoosa. He died June 26, 2008.

She is survived by four children, Dan (Lorna) Martinson of Nekoosa, Janice Green (Kelvin) of Three Forks, MT, Jean (Bob) Hafermann of Wisconsin Rapids, and Jill Barclay (Rob Graham) of Belgrade, MT; eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; her brother, Leonard (Mary Ann) Klappa of Mountain; and her sister, Judy Fogarty of Tomahawk. She is further survived by Louis' children, Arnold (Helen) Francis of Nekoosa and Carol Hanneman of Port Edwards and their children.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, husband Louis Francis, former husband Leonard Martinson, and her sister Carole Klappa.
