Wisconsin Rapids - Jere Lee O'Day age 91, of Edenbrook of Wisconsin Rapids, WI died January 30, 2018 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital.

Memorial Services will be held 12:00 Noon Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Jerome Patric will officiate, Military rites will be provided by VFW Post #2534 of Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of services. Following the Memorial Service, a luncheon and celebration of Jere's life will continue at Hollyrocks Bar (114 2nd Street North) in Wisconsin Rapids.

Jere was born April 15. 1926 in Wisconsin Rapids. His parents were John O'Day and Cecil Parmeter O'Day. Jere joined the Navy on February 2, 1943 and served as a Seaman First Class aboard the USS Herbert Jones seeing action in Europe and North Africa. He received the Purple Heart for injuries received during the Anzio invasion. He was honorably discharged from the service on November 24, 1945.

Jere married Rose Marie McKitrick. They had four children (Sherre, Michael, Patricia, Timothy). That marriage ended in divorce. He married Bonny (Delona) Zastava. They had four children (Bryan, Mark, Heather, Jennifer). That marriage also ended in divorce. Both wives preceded Jere in death.

Jere worked as an Ironworker most of his adult life. Together with his family Jere ran concession stands at Griffith Park Speedway. Golden Sands Speedway and Capitol Speedway. He co-managed Golden Sands Speedway in 1978 with his partner Dean Spohn. Jere was a well known stock car driver in central Wisconsin, piloting cars for various owners.

Together with his wife Bonny, Jere was the owner and proprietor of Jere O'Day's Pub. This establishment was well known for its excellent food and warm hospitality. Jere could often be found at the bar, sharing a drink and telling a tale or two. In the words of a favorite family poem; "when I had cash to treat the gang, this hand was never slow ... " True to his Irish heritage Jere was a fme story teller, blessed with the gift of gab with a bit of blarney thrown in. Always the gentleman, everyone's favorite "Uncle Jere" will indeed be missed.

Jere is survived by his children, Sherre Slavin, Tim (Sandy) O'Day, Bryan (Colleen) O'Day, Heather O'Day all of Wisconsin Rapids, Mark O'Day of Minneapolis, MN and Jennifer O'Day of Madison, WI, by his grandchildren, great-grand children, his brother Thomas (Arlene) O'Day of Wisconsin Rapids and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his infant son Mark Brian, his son Mike and daughter Patti.

The family would like to thank the staff at Edenbrook of Wisconsin Rapids (Strawberry Lane Nursing Home) for the care and kindness they showed to Jere.
