John L. Christensen, age 88, of Orlando, FL formerly of Wisconsin Rapids died Friday September 8, 2017 at Springhill Assisted Living Center in Orlando.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday September 30, 2017 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Nekoosa. Rev. John Swing will officiate. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. A gathering of family and friends following burial will be held in the reception hall of Switched. The family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from 10:00 AM until time of service. Feldner/Ritchay Funeral Home is assisting the family. John was born January 21, 1929 in Tomahawk to Leonard and Helen (Schultz) Christensen. He married Elaine (Schilter) on October 30, 1951 at Saints. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. John served in the US Navy during the Korean War from 1950-1954. He was employed by Nekoosa Papers Inc., retiring in 1988, as an assistant superintendent.

John was a former member of the Moose Lodge and Coast Guard Auxiliary. His interests included golfing and flying. He played golf twice a week and had his pilot's license. He traveled extensively and made yearly treks to Florida until moving there in 1998.

He is survived by his wife; Elaine Christensen, three sons John Christensen Jr. Orlando, Fl, Terry (Teresa) Christensen, Maple Grove, MN Tim (Debbee) Christensen Wisconsin Rapids; two daughters Cindy (Dan) Anderson, Orlando, Fl Tami (Joe) Winn Orlando, Fl; seven grandchildren Tori (Chris) Smith, Lindsey (Andrew)Timmins, Katy (Justin) Jessen, Josh (Jen) Anderson, Tara Winn, Nick Anderson, and Jenna Winn; two great grandchildren Keegan Smith and Anderson Timmins; four brothers Tom, Jim, Denny (Kay) and Duane Christensen; and sister Carol Benjamin.

He was proceeded in death by his parents, his brother Richard, and sister Shirley.
