Landowski, Karen M.

Karen Marie Landowski, 54, Wisconsin Rapids, WI died Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home, Port Edwards, WI, after battling cancer since 2010.

Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at Ritchay Funeral Home, 1950 12th Street South, Wisconsin Rapids. Father William Menzel will officiate. Visitation will be at the funeral home from noon until the time of the services at 1:00 PM. Burial at a later date at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

Karen was born February 6, 1963 in Wisconsin Rapids to parents Lawrence and Sophie Landowski. She graduated from Lincoln High School and received her college degree in Communication at the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. She was married in 1990 to Timothy Cumberland which ended in divorce in 1994. She later met Robert LaMarche in 1997. The couple was married in 2001 and divorced in 2003.

Karen was employed in various office capacities, and in 1997 was employed by Domtar (Georgia Pacific) until the Port Mill closure in 2008. She was then employed by Corenso from 2008 through 2012. Due to health issues, she became an office volunteer for the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce; where she had previously been an ambassador from 2009 to 2012. She took great pleasure in serving the public.

She was passionate about pets and the South Wood County Humane Society. She served on the board of directors for the shelter in 2003 and became board president from 2004 through 2007. She headed the Friends' Group during that time and held many, many fundraisers including: Putts Fore Pets; Christmas Bazaar & Bake Sale; Walk, Run, and Bike for Kindness and the Frozen Paws Chili Cook-off events.

She was an avid gardener, loved crossword puzzles and Sudoku, reading and discussing current events.

She would like to thank her very special friends Lynn Hansen, Mary Kaja, Lana Ewert, Jana Knock and Amy Kolo-Elmhorst; the 5:00 AM morning crew at the Y; and would like to thank the staff at the Heart of Wisconsin Chamber of Commerce.

She is survived by her sister, Susan Meronk of Mesa, AZ. Her sister, Linda (Robin) Ewert of Wisconsin Rapids, as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her beloved cats Cosmo, Meeko and Precious.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Duane Landowski.

Thank you to Marshfield Clinic doctors Dr. Dale Larson (assistant Robin), Dr. Victor Gottlieb (assistant Jen), and Dr. Arlene Gayle (assistant Linda). Also, thank you to the hospice nurses and the nurses and staff at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home for the compassionate care given to Karen.

Memorials may be designated to the South Wood County Humane Society, Family Center, The United Way of Inner WI, or a random act of kindness.
