Leon D. Provost

Wisconsin Rapids - Leon D. Provost, age 77, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2021, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Leon was born on September 30, 1943, to Lawrence & Leona (Henke) Provost. He attended elementary school at St. Paul's Lutheran School and graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids. He married Donna Levendoske on September 30, 1967 at St. Vincent de Paul in Wisconsin Rapids.

Leon proudly served in the US Marine Corp as a Radio-Telegraph Operator from 1961-1964. Following his time in the military, he was employed by Consolidated Papers at the Consoweld Division and then transferred to the Kraft Division in 1968. In 1970, he was employed by Aid Association for Lutherans as a District Representative. Leon later returned to work for Consolidated Papers in the Rapids Division in the Broke Department. While employed by Consolidated Papers, he also drove School Bus for Lamers Bus Lines. After retirement from Consolidated Papers, he continued for Lamers as a Professional Motorcoach Driver and extensively traveled the country.

Leon was an avid reader and loved to do daily crossword puzzles. He was very talented with his hands and there wasn't anything that he couldn't fix. He took immense pride in taking care of their house and yard and was happiest when he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed driving Motorcoach, especially serving the sports teams, military groups and the senior citizens.

Leon is survived by his soul mate and loving wife of 53 years, Donna; three children: Michelle (Tim) Schwoch of Mosinee, Mark (Sandy) Provost of Eleva, and Melissa (Steve) Boellaard of Jim Falls. Grandchildren include Cody, Jessa and Kayla Schwoch, and Lauren and Taylor Boellaard. Also survived by Ronald (Georgene) Provost, Donald Provost, Marilyn (Huntz) Link, Beverly Pecher, Larry Ubinger, Dianne (Dave) Petersen, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters (Dora Provost and Karen Ubinger), one brother (Roger Provost), his father-in-law and mother-in-law (Harry and Alma Levendoske), one sister-in-law (Sue Provost), one brother-in-law (Gilbert Pecher), two grandchildren (Desmond and Leah Schwoch), and his loyal dog, Koko.

Per Leon's wishes, no visitation or services will be held at this time. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, is honored to be assisting the family.

The family would like to extend a special word of thanks to the Aspirus Riverview Hospital Critical Care Unit staff for the excellent care Leon received.

He was a great man and he will be missed. He was an important part of the UWSP Men's Ice Hockey team - making sure the players and staff got to games and home safely.

Leon was my kids' bus driver for a few years. He ran a tight ship, but those who behaved were treated like Gold! He was a wonderful man who was taken too soon! Rest in Peace Leon!
