Lou Ellyn A. Vits, age 88, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, died Friday, August 18, 2017 at Avantara Assisted Living, Park Ridge, IL. In recent years Lou Ellyn resided at the Retirement Community of Nekoosa (2012-2016), Arborwood Lodge in Wisconsin Rapids, WI (2016) and Avantara Assisted Living in Park Ridge, IL (2017).

Funeral Services are 11:00 AM Thursday, August 31, 2017 at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Rev. Dean Anderson will officiate. The family will greet relatives and friends at Ritchay Funeral Home on Thursday from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be 1:00 PM Friday, September 1, 2017 in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc, WI.

Lou Ellyn was born March 9, 1929 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI to Valentine and Dorothy (Meunier) Siewert. Lou Ellyn was a graduate of Lincoln High School in 1946, attended Lawrence University for one year and then graduated from Northwestern University School of Nursing in 1950. She married Henry W. Vits Jr. on March 6, 1953 in the Northwestern University Chapel in Evanston, IL. He preceded her in death on October 17, 1985.

Lou Ellyn was a registered nurse, head nurse in the newborn nursery/NICU for Evanston Hospital and also worked at hospitals in Nashville, TN and Indianapolis, IN.

Lou Ellyn belonged to numerous nursing organizations and affiliations for Newborn Intensive Care Nursing; her family was a Foster Family for Newborn babies with medical health challenges in Nashville, TN; Lou manned the Women and Children's Abuse Hotline and gave support to those in need in Indianapolis, IN and was a volunteer at Altenheim Senior Living, affiliated with the First Congregational Church in Indianapolis, IN. Lou Ellyn enjoyed golfing, fishing, darts, gardening, wildlife and animal observation, and had a great love of music.

Lou Ellyn is survived by daughter, Gayle (Glenn) Gottfried of Glenview, IL; son, William (Stacey) Vits of Grand Rapids, MI; four grandchildren, Gavin (Kelsey) Gottfried of Irvine, CA, Garrett W. Gottfried of Chicago, IL, Gabrielle Gottfried of Chicago, IL and Tabor W. Vits of Lansing, MI; one brother, John T. Siewert of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and sister-in-law, Virginia "Ginny" Saemann of Plymouth, WI.

Lou Ellyn is also survived by 23 nieces and nephews, John "JR" Siewert, Charles "Chuck" Siewert, Patrick Siewert, Lynne Ann Siewert, Mary Katherine Siewert, Dennis Siewert, David Siewert, Dale Siewert, Diane Nelson, Debbie Siewert, Jon King, Valentine "Val" King, William "Bill" King, Stephen King, Dorothy "Dolly" King, Robert "Bob" Saemann, Nancy Schultz, Nina Zerwick, Barb Theobald, Shelley (Saylor) Stoffer, Christy Saylor, W.B. Saylor and David Saylor; and dear friends, June Flatt of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Pat Duckart of Sun Prairie, WI and Chet Maleski and Saylor family in Wisconsin Rapids, WI.

Lou Ellyn was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Valentine Siewert; husband, Henry; brother, Valentine Perry Siewert; sister, Jeanne King; and nephew, Thomas "Tommy" King.
