Wisconsin Rapids, WI - Philip "Pat" Haines, age 78 of 2115 Sherri Lane, Wisconsin Rapids, WI, died Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Cranberry Court in Wisconsin Rapids.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday January 17 at ST. Lawrence Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids officiated by Rev. David Bruener. Burial will take place at a later date. Visitation will be held at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids on Tuesday January 16 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again on Wednesday morning from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church prior to memorial services.

Pat was born May 1, 1939 in Eau Claire, Wi to the late John and Lois (Pope) Haines. He married Mary Lokemoen on August 8, 1964 in Merrill, WI. Pat attended UW-Eau Claire, UW- Stevens Point, and The Sorbonne University in Paris, France. He was a French and English Teacher at John Edwards High School in Port Edwards, WI for 31 years.

Pat was a forensic, drama and curling coach and a donkey basketball aficionado. He loved escorting his French students to France for study, family stays and touring. He awakened many students to the joy of the French language and travel. Pat was a member of the Wisconsin Education Association, National Education Association and Wisconsin Rapids Retired Education Association. He received the Teacher of the year Award at John Edwards High School.

Family was Pat's highest priority. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was especially proud of his children's accomplishments. Pat enjoyed sitting in the bleachers and cheering for his grandson's sporting events. In his younger days Pat was an amateur magician which carried through to his later years as he entertained family friends, and wide-eyed grandchildren. Pat also enjoyed gardening, biking, exercising at the YMCA, traveling, horseback riding, reading and doing crossword puzzles. He had a special love of dogs who came in and out of his life.

Pat is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Beth (James) Molski and grandsons Nicholas, Patrick and Samuel all of Stevens Point, WI. Son Ted (Ilona Muschenetz) and granddaughter McKenzie Haines all of Burbank, CA. and son Steven of Corona, CA. Pat is further survived by his brothers Ken, Jerry, and Paul Haines and sisters Mary (Bill) Lahner, Catherine Taylor, Joyce (Ron) Miles, Joan (Don) Maranville, Karen (Larry) Garnett, sisters-in-law Lois Haines and Mary Ann Haines, brother-in-law John (Lue) Lokemoen, sister-in-law Kristen Lokemoen and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers John, Robert and Dann Haines; sisters-in-law Mary Haines and Patricia Haines.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Cranberry Court for their loving care of Pat; and Heartland Hospice for their aide in his final days. A special thank you to the staff at the YMCA on Pepper Ave. They went above and beyond assisting Pat with his daily workout routines as his Alzheimer's progressed.
