Phyllis Lorraine Schmidt, age 102 of Wisconsin Rapids, WI died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at The Renaissance Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids.

Memorial Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, July 7, 2017 at St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Vicki Natzke will officiate the service, burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park. The family will greet relatives and friends at the Church on Friday from 10:00 - 11:00 AM.

Phyllis was born February 20, 1915 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to the late Henry and Helen (Kane) Hohler. She married Leon S. Schmidt Sr. on January 20, 1940 in Madison, WI, he died June 19, 1994. Phyllis graduated from Northern State Teacher's College in Aberdeen, South Dakota. She won a swimming medal while attending college and received all straight A grades while studying French for 8 years through UW-extension.

Phyllis was an excellent ballroom dancer and especially enjoyed traveling the world. She was an avid golfer and bridge player, belonging to 3 bridge clubs at one time. Phyllis was President of Law Wives of Wood County and was very active in the Republican Party in the 1950's. She was a charter member of the Riverview Hospital Auxiliary and was also Chairman of the Hospital Auxiliary Knitting Group for 30 years. Phyllis was a member of Bulls Eye Country Club, A.A. U.W and Margaret Fuller and Current and Classic Clubs.

Phyllis is survived by her sons: Leon (Mary Kay) Schmidt Jr. of Wisconsin Rapids, Robert (Nancy) Schmidt of Carefree, AZ; grandchildren: Karl Schmidt of Wisconsin Rapids, Michael (Brynn) Schmidt of Los Angeles, CA, Robert (Tonia) Schmidt of Prescott, AZ, Theodore Schmidt of Portland, OR; nieces: Carol (Craig) Dean, Susan McKenna, Mary (Peter) Vaira, Barbara (Eric) Simonson, Carol Buske, Lynn (Walter) Lowe and Lynn (Jim) Gilbert.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leon Schmidt Sr., grandson Andrew Schmidt, infant brother Paul, brother John, sisters: Dorothy, Virginia, Pauline and nephew Tom Mckenna.

Memorials may be designated to St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Wisconsin Rapids.
