Patricia Ann Butler, 82, The Woodlands, passed away peacefully at her home on November 20, 2013, with all three of her children at her bedside. She lived her final weeks as she did her entire life - with dignity, compassion for others and exemplary courage, grounded in her unwavering Catholic faith. Born August 19, 1931, the third of four children to Henry and Irene Beard, Pat attended and graduated from Ardmore, Oklahoma schools . After a brief, but rewarding career in banking, she met and married the love of her life, Earl R. Butler, Jr., and the couple had three children - Keith, Susan and Mary Ann. After career stops in Oklahoma City and Ponca City, the family settled in the F.M. 1960 area in 1969. Pat was a stay-at-home housewife and mother by choice, supporting her husband as a true full partner in his business and career endeavors.. Earl's successes were equally Pat's. When her husband was stricken with a debilitating illness at an early age, she was his rock. She provided him with the love and nuturing support that allowed him to survive an additional eleven years. She rarely, if ever, left his side, subordinating her own needs for his, until his death in December,1987. Pat moved to The Woodlands in 2005. A devout Catholic, she lived her faith. She sheltered the homeless through the Northwest Assistance Ministries, and fed the hungry through her work at the food pantry at her church.Pat loved being with her friends, playing bridge and spending time with her grandchildren. She was an avid sports fan , often knowing teams and players better than the males in her family. Her sense of humor was infectious, and she had a warm presence that put all those around her at ease. Pat was defined by her love of others. She was a loyal and steadfast supporter of her husband, her children and grandchildren. She was a dear friend who could be counted on. She was a devoted disciple of Christ. Pat made everyone who knew her better, and will be greatly missed. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 31 years, Earl; her parents, Henry and Irene Beard; her siblings, Betty Keeton, Bill Beard and Kenneth Beard and brothers-in-law, Ray Keeton and Jim Butler and sister-in-law, Sandy Beard. She is survived by her children: son, Keith, and wife Judi; daughter, Susan, and husband, Brad; and, daughter Mary Ann, and husband, Ray. Additional survivors include her grandchildren, Jason Thornhill, Savannah Stafford, and husband, Stephen, and Morgan Ramsey from Oklahoma City and Matthew Reid, and wife, Holly; John Reid and Rachel Reid, all of The Woodlands. She also leaves two great-grandchildren, Savannah (Ava) and Vivienne (Vivi) Stafford. Pat is also survived by her sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Ammann, Shirley Butler, Anne Beard and Kenneth Butler and numerous nieces and nephews who held a special bond with their Aunt Pat. In keeping with her compassion for others and the smile for which she was widely known, Pat has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to The Smile Train, that children may have both a reason and an ability to smile. The family wishes to express its deepest gratitude and affection for the tireless efforts rendered and kindness extended to our Mother by her doctors and the dedicated team from Silverado Hospice. Additionally, we will be eternally grateful to all who said prayers, cooked meals and brought us Holy Communion throughout her illness. Funeral arrangements provided by Forest Park, The Woodlands.
