Albert Valliere, Jr. Obituary

NORTH SMITHFIELD - Albert P. Valliere, Jr., 74, of North Smithfield, died October 18, 2020 at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Paula Smith Valliere, to whom he was married for 50 years. Born in Woonsocket, he was the son of the late Albert and Celia (Petrin) Valliere.

Albert was the President and CEO of Nationwide Construction and was regularly recognized for his outstanding leadership, his considerable contributions to his community and his commitment to "Do well by doing good."

Albert was a rockstar triathlete who once biked 200 miles in a day and was always first out of the water in his age group. When asked how he was doing, he always answered "Best shape of my life." And it was always true.

Albert was a very funny man and a generous laugher. He wanted, always, for you to feel comfortable and welcome around him. He loved fiercely and was fiercely loved.

Along with his wife, Paula, he is survived by two daughters, Nicole and Vanessa Valliere; his dear nephew, Victor Valliere; his brother, Paul Valliere; two sisters, Pauline Valliere and Cecelia Florentz; as well as Jackson and Sydney Valliere, the two grandchildren that brought him astounding joy.

Visitation will be held, Saturday, October 24, 2020 from 1 - 4pm in the Holt Funeral Home, 510 South Main St., Woonsocket. All other services will be private. Social distancing guidelines will be implemented upon your arrival. We were all at the gym one day and Al was doing sit-ups. Al´s lawyer came to see him but Al was not stopping his sit-ups until he was done. Totally focused. Al´s lawyer got down on his side and did pushups with him in a suit and tie and Al finally lost his concentration laughing but still finished his set. Life was good back then. God Bless Al and all who loved him.

I just heard about Al's passing yesterday, and I would like to extend my deepest condolences to his family. I haven't seen Al since the 60's and I agree that he was always a very positive person that loved to get a laugh, as well as share one whenever possible. It wasn't until I knew Al for a couple of years that my mom gave me the good news that we were cousins - and we both got a laugh out of that. Between a war, going off to college and life itself, we've lost touch with one another over the years, so I was especially disappointed that I let this happen. He will always be fondly remembered, and thinking of him will always bring a smile to my face. I retired from real estate several years back and I know Al well enough to know that he would get a laugh at me now pursuing my passion for music, so the next gig I play will be dedicated to you cousin... RIP Al - God Bless You...

Dear Paula and family,
I am so sorry for your loss.

I’ve had the good fortune of meeting Al in the late 1980’s in capacity as a professional contractor, and serving with him on community economic development boards, in addition to the MSC School Board.
He was a joy to speak with due to his sincere interest and enthusiasm in sharing his insights – whether business or personal.
Al’s great sense of humor was his hallmark. I’ll always remember his self-deprecating humor when he told me that he was on the last Mount Saint Charles varsity football team in the school’s history and attributed it to – in his words – “I was the biggest guy on the team that year!”
Paula, Sue and I extend our sincere condolences to you and your family.

Al was a classmate of mine at Mt St Charles in the Class of '65. It was great to see him at our 50th reunion. Al was just one of those people who were bigger than life in high school and he was tate same guy at the 50th reunion. My best memory of him at the reunion was when we were walking into the arena as the Class of '65 when he turned to me and said that he had to keep joking or he would start to cry. That outside bravado really masked a very kind and generous individual and that is the person that i will always remember.

Paula, to you and the family, I am so very sorry for your loss but at the same time your time with him is a memory that no one can ever take from you and you know that he will always be looking over you.

Smart witty funny a loyal friend who always treated people with respect. A guy who achieved much with a worldly vision while remaining true to his roots. A one of a kind from our days at Mount and all the years after. He will be missed

I'd known Al since we were teenagers and later we served on the Main Street advisory board and of course would see him barreling along the bike path. Proud to have been his friend. My sympathies to his entire family.

Al was a great classmate at Mount. I truly enjoyed laughing and discussing our life experiences with him at our 50th reunion. He was also a great help to me when I had to settle my folks' affairs several years ago. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to know Al.

Al is a person I remembered fondly at the Y. He always had a funny story, and usually left something behind, like his wallet, or bathing suit. We would have to call and let know. I remember the stories he told about forgetting his bike on top of the roof of his car as he drove into the garage. He was always on the go, moving. His eyes would light up even more so as he spoke about his grandchildren. He will be missed.

Dear Paula, Nicole and Vanessa,

You know all the “ya-ya’s” loved Al. We will always remember him for his legendary sense of humor, his welcoming ways and his Superman athletic accomplishments. I will forever remember him riding what seemed like 1,000 miles on his stationary bike at the Bodi Sharp! His smile, personality and infectious laugh lit up every room he entered. He was a force of nature and an all round good guy. You have been devoted to him through the illness that robbed him and you of his many gifts. I hope you find peace and comfort in knowing that you gave him your all and he is free. Ride Al ride
