Mr William Stanley Gray Worksop Mr William Stanley Gray, of Cowper Close, Worksop, devoted husband of the late Alma, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family, aged 97 years on August 8, 2021.
He leaves his daughters Anne and Jane, sons Paul, Kevin and Neil, eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
"Stan" was born on Colbeck Street, Worksop in 1924, he was educated at Crown Street School and had lived all his life in Worksop.
At the age of fourteen he first started working delivering groceries for Worksop Cooperative. In 1942 he was working in Kettering, Northamptonshire, from where he signed up for the War Effort with the Northamptonshire Regiment. After the war years in 1947, he married his wife Alma, at the Priory Church, and together they brought up five children. He was a hardworking man, having worked throughout the years locally at Elasteel, Hooleys, Booths lorry transport, as a Dustman for the local council refuse services and his last job was as the Chairman of Bassetlaw District Council's Chauffeur.
His interests were football, snooker and billiards, tinkering with cars, repairing clocks and watches and in his latter years playing with sudoku and jigsaw puzzles.
Everyone that knew him called him Stan, he was a family man through and through. He was kind, caring and enjoyed giving help and assistance to others. He enjoyed a laugh and a joke and hardly ever complained. He was a good friend and pal to all who knew him.
The funeral service was conducted by Father Willett at the Priory Church, Worksop, followed by Committal at Babworth Crematorium.
