Alfonso Desimone Obituary

DOVER Alfonso Desimone, 81, entered into rest on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Colonial Manor. He was the husband of Maria G. (Scicchitano) Desimone. He was born September 20, 1931, in Colledimezza, Italy, the son of the late Guglielmo and Nunzia (Scopino) Desimone. He emigrated to the United States in 1947 and became a U.S. citizen where he settled in York County. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict recieving a wounded veteran honorary discharge. He was a skilled and artistic 4th generation stonemason who worked alongside his father and for Dan Lepore and Sons on many important buildings such as the U.S. Senate Library in Washington, D.C., Princeton College, Dickinson Law School, Hershey Medical Center, St. Rose of Lima Church and many more. Alfonso was a member of St. Rose of Lima Church. He was honored with a lifetime membership in the international union of bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers for being a 50 year member in the union. He loved to travel by car and enjoyed the outdoors and being with his family. He will always be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Rose of Lima Church 950 W. Market St., York. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Thomas Hoke officiating. Burial will follow in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens with Military Honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The John W. Keffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 2114 W. Market St., West York, is assisting with the arrangements. In addtiion his wife, Alfonso is also survived by a son, William A. Desimone and his wife, Rebecca; daughters, Christine E. Gunarich and husband, Michael, and Linda S. Ferguson and husband, Rodney; two step children, Josephine Shirey and husband, Glenn and Steven Spangler; 10 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Sabina Desimone; and a brother, Anthony Desimone. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association South Central PA Chapter, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg PA 17110, in his memory to help in the fight to end Alzheimer's. www.KefferFH.com
