Arthur K. Freas

FERNANDINA BEACH, FL Arthur Koons Freas, 88, husband of the late Margery Huston Freas, passed away on Monday, November 5, 2012, in Fernandina Beach. He was born June 16, 1924 in Berwick, Pa., the son of A. Guy Freas and Elisabeth Koons Freas. During World War II he served as a corporal in the Army Air Corps. It was during the war that he met Margery. After the war he graduated from Bucknell University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Arthur and Margery married in 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa. Arthur Freas managed paper mills for Federal Paperboard throughout the mid-Atlantic states for 30 years. When he retired from the paper business he planted a vineyard, growing wine grapes on their farm in York County. In 1998 the Freases moved to Amelia Island, Fla. Mrs. Freas passed away unexpectedly in 2009. Mr. Freas is survived by four children, Lawrence H. Freas and his wife, Carole of Earlysville, Va., Donald A. Freas of Olympia, Wash., Nancy Pratt and her husband, Richard of Middletown, and Susan Magargee and her husband, Scott of Julian, Pa. He also had 10 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. A memorial will be held at the Amelia Plantation Chapel on Saturday, November 17, 2012, at 10 a.m. A family memorial will be held graveside at the Rohrsburg Cemetery, Rohrsburg, Pa., where three earlier generations of Freases are buried.
