Darlene M. Bortner

SPRING GROVE Darlene M. (Barthold) Bortner, 67, passed away on August 31, 2013, at home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Glenn A. Bortner; together they shared over 44 years of marriage. Darlene was born in North Codorus Township on September 28, 1945, and was the daughter of the late James S. Barthold and Annie E. (Rohrbaugh) Barthold. She graduated from Spring Grove High School class of 1963. She then attended nursing school at Carlisle Hospital and earned her LPN. She worked at Hanover Hospital for a few years, then worked for Lauchman Groceries in Jefferson, Hanover House and was a cashier at Kennie's Markets in Spring Grove. She was a longtime member of Christ United Church of Christ in Jefferson, Jefferson AARP and the Ladies Auxiliary at Jefferson Fire Company. Darlene was devoted to her church and helping othersbut she cherished the time she spent with her family. In addition to her husband Glenn, she is survived by her daughter, Angela S. March-Warnke; her granddaughter, Mauryia E. March; her sister, Grace Myers of York; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Stanley Jr. and Lloyd Barthold; and her sister, Ruth Ann Dietz. Following cremation, a memorial service in celebration of her life will be held on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Christ United Church of Christ, 32 Baltimore St., Codorus PA 17311, with her Pastor Bonnie Whittier officiating. Family services are under the direction of Irwin-Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service PC of Spring Grove.
