Jacob E. Coxen

KINGS MOUNTAIN, NC Jacob Eugene "Gene" Coxen, 85, a resident of 911 Wildwood Drive, Kings Mountain, N.C., died Saturday, March 23, 2013, at his home. He was born on March 21, 1928, in York, son of the late Jacob Coxen and Bertha Malehorn Coxen Stough and was also preceded in death by his first wife, Anna Mae Smith Coxen. He retired from the U.S. Army, having served in WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam, and also retired from Boston Gear Co., Charlotte, N.C. He was a member of Dixon Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder. He was a mason and member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge, Manila, Philippines, and a past Associate Grand Guardian of Pennsylvania of the International Order of Job's Daughters. He was also a past board member of the Black Mountain Children's Home. Surviving are his wife of 29 years, Barbara A. Julius Coxen of Kings Mountain, N.C.; son, Ronald Coxen and wife, Cynthia of Natalia, Texas; daughter, Connie Coxen Petcher and husband, Ronald, Roseland, Va.; stepson and daughter, Scott Chamberlain and Michele Knaub; brother, Richard Coxen; sister, Esther Prouse; five grandchildren: and five great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at York Christian Fellowship, York, on Saturday, April 13, 2013, at 6 p.m. The Rev. Dee Cashman will officiate. A visitation will be held immediately following the service in the Fellowship Hall. Interment will be in Stumps Cemetery at New Fairview Church of the Brethren, York.
