Jean M. Ecker

HANOVER Jean M. Ecker, 83, entered into God's eternal care Friday, February 22, 2013, at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center. She was the loving wife of Rudolph V. Ecker, with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. Born April 7, 1929, in Hanover, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Madelyn (Sullivan) Bollinger. She was a 1946 graduate of Eichelberger High School and also completed the University of Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing Program in Philadelphia. Following graduation, she also had additional training at the Wills Eye Hospital of Philadelphia. Jean was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Hanover. She was also a member of the Hanover Community Players as well as the Gettysburg Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood. During her career, Mrs. Ecker utilized her skills as a registered nurse at the Hanover Hospital and the York Hospital, as well as Planned Parenthood of Hanover. In addition to her husband, Rudy, Jean is survived by her daughter, Sheila M. Ecker of Hanover; her son, Scott T. Ecker and wife, Beth of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and her grandchildren, Jacob Ecker and Katherine Ecker. She was preceded in death by her infant sister. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Jean will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home, Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover, with her pastor, the Rev. Kathryn A. Schroeder, officiating. Following cremation, burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at Marburg Memorial Gardens, Hanover. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
