Sheila C. von Lange

SHREWSBURY Sheila Catherine (Fraser) von Lange, 90, went to be with the Lord from her residence on Wednesday, December 12, 2012, after a long and fulfilling life. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 17, 2012, at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc. 19 S. Main St., Stewartstown. Funeral Liturgy will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church (new church), 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, with the Rev. Bernard Wamayose, A.J. officating. Interment will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Sheila was the daughter of the late William Edgar and Catherine Kitty (Stockdale) Fraser. Sheila was born on July 31, 1922, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She attended University and went on to become one of the first teachers at the Instituto Lange Ley. It was there that she met the father of her nine children, Hans Joachim von Lange of York. In 1957 Sheila and Hans packed up their six children and a handful of belongings to begin a long and courageous journey to Baldwin, N.Y., where their last three children were born. In 1973 they moved to Stewartstown where Sheila resided until 2011. She will be remembered as a loving mother, spirited grandmother, proud great-grandmother, caring friend, and a force to be reckoned with. Her strength, grace, and vivacious spirit will live on in the many lives she touched. Sheila is survived by her sister, Patsy Crispin; nine children, John von Lange, Elizabeth Sutherland, Pete Lentz, Richard von Lange, Alexander von Lange, Michael von Lange, Edward von Lange, Christine von Lange Bond, and Heidi Bossom; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a niece, a nephew, and countless friends. In addition to her parents, Sheila was preceded in death by a brother, Edgar; her great-granddaughter, Alexis Sauer; and her niece, Sonya.
