Elvin E. Stambaugh Obituary
YORK Elvin E. Stambaugh, 86, went home to be with the Lord at 6:25 p.m. on Wednesday, December 25, 2013, at York Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jean M. (Eisenhart) Stambaugh. The couple celebrated 64 years of marriage on August 27, 2013. Born November 14, 1927, in Paradise Township, Elvin was the son of the late Harry K. and Nora E. (Gerber) Stambaugh. He graduated in 1945 from East Berlin High School. Elvin graduated from Penn State University in 1952. He attended Fuller Seminary in Pasedena, Calif., where he graduated in 1956, and earned his Masters of Science Degree in 1963 from the University of Pennsylvania. Elvin was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran of World War II and also served as a Lt. Colonel with the Pennsylvania Air National Guard. He taught math and physics for 35 years at Spring Grove High School, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Church of the Open Door where he was a former board and choir member and a Sunday school teacher. Elvin was also a member of the Military Officers of America Association and the NRA. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golfing, and gardening. In addition to his wife, Elvin is survived by four daughters, Deborah L. Miller and husband, Thomas R., and Cynthia S. Knipel and husband, Timothy P., all of York, and Rebekah R. Klugh and husband, Donald S., and Angela A. Basom and husband, Brent J., all of Dillsburg; 11 grandchildren, Rachel, Joshua, Andrew, Andrea, Tessa, Trisha, Lydia, Levi, Chloe, Micah, and Adam; and five great-grandchildren, Liam, Riley, Kaden, Kinley, and Tyler. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Marian Stambaugh and Jean Jenkins. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Elvin's funeral at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, December 30, 2013, at Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Court, York. Veteran's honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard immediately following the service. Burial will be private in Paradise Holtzschwamm Union Cemetery, Thomasville. Officiating will be his pastors, the Rev. Robert Riedy and the Rev. Donald Wagner. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is in charge of arrangements.
