John J. Brodbeck Obituary
EAST BERLIN John J. Brodbeck, 80, died Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Hanover Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy L. (Winand) Brodbeck, his wife of 60 years. John was born September 22, 1932, in Dover, the son of the late Paul A. and Ethel (Byers) Brodbeck. John was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in East Berlin and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He attended East Berlin High School and retired from CAT in 1995 after 18 years of service. He was a deputy game warden for 43 years with the PA Game Commission, and was currently employed at Gene Latta Ford in Hanover. He was a life member of the East Berlin V.F.W., and the East Berlin Fish & Game, and was a member of the American Legion Post #791 in Shiloh, East Berlin Fire Co., was president of the East Berlin Union Cemetery Association, and was the coordinator for the food pantry in Abbottstown and East Berlin. He was also a Jefferson Award nominee and a Nationwide hunter safety instructor of the year. In addition to his wife Nancy, John is survived by a son, Jeff L. Brodbeck and his wife Nora of Hellam, a son, Mike E. Brodbeck and his wife Karen of York, a daughter, Diane K. Reese and her husband Robert of Hanover, a son, Keith A. Brodbeck and his wife Lori of Spring Grove; nine grandchildren and six great grandchildren; three brothers, Richard Brodbeck of New Oxford, Robert Brodbeck of Abbottstown, and Jim Brodbeck of Thomasville, and three sisters, Ethel Trimmer of East Berlin, Jean Hoffman of Dover, and Ruth Laughman of East Berlin. He was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and William Brodbeck and a sister, Mary Bream. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Chambersburg Rd, Gettysburg, with his pastor, Rev. Larry A. McConnell officiating. There will be no viewing. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 1016, East Berlin, PA 17316.
