Mary Rankin Obituary
Mary E. Rankin
BEAVERCREEK, OH
Mary Ella (Boeckel) Rankin, 89, formerly of York, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016.
Mrs. Rankin was born in York, on September 14, 1926, daughter of the late, Richard and Sylvia (Irwin) Boeckel and the wife of the late Raymond I. Rankin, Jr.
Mary was preceded in death by her son, Raymond I. Rankin, III, and is survived by her sister, Kathryn Mummert; daughters, Beverly Robison and Sandra Kucinsky; eight grandchildren, John and Larry Robison and Anne Robison-Neal, Joseph and Christopher Kucinsky and Stacey Kucinsky Meldrum and Raymond and Donna Rankin; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Mary was a devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who was loved by everyone she met. Well, except for the yard sale permit lady at the township office. Mary had a special talent for finding yard sale treasures that she was sure either she or someone she knew would need someday. The evidence of her success was clear with a quick glimpse in any room or any drawer in the house. Mary was an entrepreneur who used her early success on the church's bowling team to capture the family championship in Wii bowling. There was never a jigsaw puzzle that gave her a real challenge. And Mary gave new definition to gaming by spending hours on the phone playing Yahtzee with dear friends who couldn't make it to her house to play in person. On a regular basis, Mary put Julia Child to shame by making midnight cheesecakes for the crowd lingering in the kitchen, famous Mema pickles, world-class apple dumplings, or chicken corn soup to feed an army. Mary was that one person to whom you'd never want to say "good-bye" or "good-night" ...because surely there was another story, something more to learn about or laugh about. She gave love unconditionally and shared lessons that have made her friends and family smarter, stronger, and better people.
Friends and family are encouraged to gather in her honor at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, 2016, at the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., 2290 School St., York (Shiloh).
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to , 324 Wilmington Ave., Dayton, OH 45420.
