Edward M. Wiest, Sr.

York Twp - Edward M. Wiest. Sr, age 90, of York Township went to be with his lord and his adoring wife, Ruth E. (Redding) Weist, at 9:05PM Monday, July 9th, 2018 at Misericordia Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born prematurely in his family home in York, on March, 29, 1928, weighing only 3 and 3/4 lbs, he was the son of the late J. Fred and Alverta Mae (Strickler) Wiest. A 1946 graduate of William Penn Senior High School Industrial Arts Course, he started his career as a machinist apprentice at Penn Tool and Manufacturing Company, the former York County Gas Company in service, and the former ALTO Corporation as shop foreman. In 1961, Mr. Wiest teamed up with Hans Faltin to form Custom-Bilt Machinery, Inc., where he served as Executive Vice President. Later Custom-Bilt merged with Apollo Ad to form Advanced Enterprises. Mr. Wiest and his business partner, Hans, invented and manufactured equipment for the graphic arts industry, and held Patents on numerous pieces of equipment including the Wax Coating Machine, Ad-A-Card, Three Knife Trimmer, and In-Line-Plowing System for the in-line webb printing industry. Mr. Wiest was known world wide for his contribution to the graphic arts printing industry.

Very active in Masonic organizations, his affiliations included York Lodge #266, Free and Accepted Masons; Tall Cedars of Lebanon, York Forrest #30; Zembo Temple Shrine; and Harrisburg Consistory. He was also an active member of the Salvation Army Auxiliary.

He also enjoyed singing, and was a long time member of Zion United Church of Christ Senior Choir, Tall Cedar Chanters, and Dallastown Golden Agers.

Mr. and Mrs. Wiest celebrated nearly 68 years of marriage in 2014 prior to her passing. They enjoyed roller skating at Playland, as well as dancing. They were members of the Cotillion Club, Dutch Club, and the Manor Club. They also traveled extensively in the United States and abroad both for business and pleasure, making friends everywhere they traveled. They also loved the beach and their home near Bethany Beach where they entertained family and friends. Everyone was always welcome at their homes, and they loved throwing parties and celebrating milestones.

Mr. Wiest was currently a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, and formerly a long time member of Zion United Church of Christ and its "All Two's" Sunday School Class.

He lived with Ruth in the Connections Unit of Country Meadows of Leader Heights until her death, and continued living at Country Meadows until his hospitalization and transfer to Misericordia.

Mr. Wiest is survived by a son, E. Michael Wiest, Jr., and his wife Leora; two daughters, Dr. Janis Wiest Taylor, and Jo Elaine Kibler, and her husband Kim; five grandchildren, Joshua Taylor, Sr., Jessica Warns, and he husband Joe, Zachary Wiest, and his wife Monica, Aaron Wiest, and Nathan Kibler; four great grandchildren Gracie K. and Joshua Taylor Jr., Cassidy Warns, Roguen Clapper, with a fifth great grandchild, Quinn Wiest, expected in September. He is also survived by his beloved cat, Luna; and well as sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews. He loved his family.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 PM Friday, July 13, 2018 at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 397 Tyler Run Road, York, with his Pastor, The Rev. Rick Smith officiating, assisted by Lt. Colonels Norman E. and Louisa Wood, of the Salvation Army. Viewings will be 5-7:00 PM Thursday and 1-2:00 PM Friday both at the Church.
