Ellen, I can't believe it's been 8 years since you left us. I think of you every time I go up to Calabash. It's only 10 minutes away from me! I'll miss you at our 45th reunion on 10/10/2020. Cool date, isn't it? Until we meet again and get trashed......xoxo

I choose to rejoice in Ellen's Life, her present Life, and the Life of us all, which can never be lost. Jesus, the greatest unbeliever in death that the world has ever known, told a group of staunch believers in death that God is the God of the living and not of the dead.

It's sad when life is shorter by illness. My condolences to all of Ellen's family and friends. She got to see the NASCAR Hall of Fame when she was supposed to be out of time. That's a blessing.

Jonathan,Hayden and Hope. A long time ago your mother worked at the Glatfelter Insurance Group. Back then she loved covering soap stars and just like NASCAR, she was passionate about her writing. She was a great friend and a wonderful mother. I am saddened by her passing and very sorry for your loss. She will always hold a special place in my heart for all the fun we shared with our kids. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you and your families.

Working in the press office at NASCAR, I can say Ellen was one of the nicest and professional motorsports writers in the years of our working relationship. She had called me in January to tell me she was coming down for Speedweeks and that she would need her annual media hardcard which I promptly got to her. I know she loved NASCAR and will be missed especially by me. My prayers and thoughts are with her parents, sister, son and entire family.

My deepest sympathies and condolences on Ellen's passing. She was one of my favorite people in the business, and I'll echo another person's description of her: honest to the core, a rarity in the media these days. I remember giving her a hug in January at the NASCAR Media Tour, hoping that God would provide a miracle and spare Ellen. Unfortunately, that was not to be, but it's pretty clear God had bigger plans for Ellen: he needed an outstanding writer and person to cover Dale Earnhardt, Adam Petty, Scott Kalitta, Blaine Johnson and so many other racers who, like Ellen, left us way too soon.

If there's one thing I regret, it's that the last hug I gave her in January after the media tour ended wasn't longer. She will be greatly missed.

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Ellen. Her professionalism and journalistic integrity will be sorely missed. Shortly after I started the Gordonline.com website in 1998, I received an email from Ellen. I had mentioned the untimely passing of a Jeff Gordon fan who had died in a car accident. Ellen had read the account of the crash where the victim was thrown from the vehicle. The professional journalist in her quickly realized the victim was not wearing a seat belt. After an email exchange, I changed the focus of the story to a lesson about seat belts. That was just the first of many email messages we sent to each other over the years. If you ask a racing journalist about drivers they're fans of, you should get silence. But if you ask about their favorite drivers, they're likely to engage you for hours. Jeff Gordon was definitely one of Ellen's favorites. If I could sum up Ellen's impact, it would be one word: Honest. She kept me honest and on my toes at all times. The last thing I wanted was an email from Ellen to admonish me about something on the site. But the last thing I expected was an email from her about the battle with leukemia. In Ellen's memory, I made a donation to The Jeff Gordon Children's Foundation. Condolences to Ellen's family, friends, and supporters. There are many.

Mr. and Mrs. Slothour and Elaine and family, I will always remember Ellen as a fun-loving, spirited girl with a hearty laugh. She and I shared so many good times in our high school years at your house, my house and everywhere in between. I am so sorry your family has had to go through the loss of both Dave and now Ellen to this horrible disease. My thoughts and prayers and sincere sympathy are with all of you.
