John W. Albright Obituary
YORK John W. Albright, 88, died on Friday, March 1, 2013, at 5:30 a.m., at his home. He was the husband of the late Dorothy E. (Wagner) Albright and the loving companion of Doris March. There will be no viewing. Cremation took place with Workinger-Semmel F.H. & Crematorium, Inc., York. A visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 17, 2013, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 947 N. George St., York. A Memorial Service will follow at 2 p.m. at the church with his pastor, the Rev. Beth A. Schlegel, officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Mr. Albright was born July 9, 1924 in York and was the son of the late Harry L. and Marguerite (Foller) Albright. He was a district accounting manager for 35 years with York County Gas Co. (now Columbia Gas), graduate of North York H.S. Class of ' 42, and attended Penn State York Campus. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during WWII; a member of St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Pleasureville American Legion Post #799, Hawks Gunning Club, and the Heritage Trust; a 50 year member of both the Izaak Walton League and York Coin Club; served on the Springettsbury Township Recreation Board for over 20 years and was a volunteer with the York County Tourist Bureau for 12 years. He was an outstanding athlete having been inducted into the York Central League Hall of Fame, a PIAA Basketball Official, avid bowler and golfer, and a member of the Central League Old Timers Association. Mr. Albright is survived by his companion; two sons, John W. Albright II and wife Susan of York and Mark A. Albright and wife Megan of Round Hill, Va.; a daughter, Deborah S. Lau and husband James of Dover; six grandchildren; a step grandson; three great-grandchildren; two half brothers; and a half sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Peter's Lutheran Church Building Fund, 947 N. George St., York, PA 17404.
