Kenneth White

Spring Grove - Kenneth "KING" Gordon White entered into his heavenly home at the age of 84 on the morning of Tuesday, May 15, 2018. King passed peacefully at home with his beloved wife of 53 years by his side.

King was born in Spring Grove, and was the son of Luciele Lau White and Reginald Francis White. He proudly served our country as a U.S. Marine and he volunteered for many years as a firefighter with the Spring Grove Fire Company. He was employed by P.H. Glatfelter Co. for his entire working career.

King deeply loved his family, his country, his pets, coins and guns, "wheeling and dealing" at Colonial Valley, Roots and Morningstar, playing volleyball, and swimming at the Hanover YMCA and Lincolnway Pool (where he was the first lifeguard and oldest living member). He loved the York Fair, the Spring Grove Dairy Bar, beautiful women, the color blue, the number three, Reese's peanut butter cups, whistling, sunshine, water, and later in life, his times at Golden Vision.

King, affectionately known as "The Mighty White", had a very quick wit and loved to make people laugh. He enthusiastically cheered for his grandchildren at their various events. They are his lasting legacy, of whom he was very proud.

King is survived by his wife, Doris Jean (Shellenberger) White; his daughters, Penny Jo White Gordon (Dan Gordon) and Melissa Ann White Grim (Benjamin Grim); his grandchildren, Trevor White Grim, Trace Benjamin Grim, Grace Luciele Gordon and Daniel Kenneth Gordon. He is also survived by his sister, Marian "Mim" White Kessler; and many loving nieces and nephews. Predeceasing King were his siblings, Harry "Bud" Cooper, Gladys "Sissy" Bradshaw and Donald Freeman White, as well as his parents. King was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove.

A funeral service in celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Spring Grove with Rev. Jack Craft officiating. He will be laid to rest following the service at St. Peter Lischey's Cemetery in Spring Grove with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. A viewing will be held on Saturday from 9-11 a.m. in the parlor at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to VNA of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 Madison St., Hanover PA 17331.
