Ralph S. Burkett, Sr.
Ralph S. Burkett, Sr., 73, peacefully passed away Tuesday, November 15, 2016 at his home with his wife and daughter Lisa by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born June 17, 1943, in Harrisburg, son of the late Dewey H. and Georgia E. (Hughes) Burkett. He was the husband of Carol H. (Granger) Burkett and together they celebrated 53 years of marriage. Ralph was a 1962 graduate of Middletown Area High School, Middletown, and he retired from Standard Register in 2005 after working there for 36 years. Ralph enjoyed and was active for many years in several bowling leagues around York, often bowling at Colony Park West and Suburban Bowlerama.
In addition to his wife, he is also survived by his beloved twin grandchildren, Romi and Nikolas Schriver of York. In their four short years, Romi and Nikolas brought so much joy to their grandfather's life and finally allowed him to have the opportunity to enjoy being the Grandfather he always wanted to be! He is also survived by two daughters, Lisa J. Schriver and her husband, Deron of York, and Karen of Delaware, as well as several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dewey H. (Butch) Burkett, Jr. of York and Edward Burkett of Arizona; and two sisters, Clair Hall of Palmyra and Ellen Baran of Barnegat, N.J. He is predeceased by his sons. Ralph, Jr. and Keith A. Burkett as well as a brother, Gerald (Joe) Burkett.
A visitation will be held 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, November 21, 2016 at the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., 2290 School St., York (Shiloh). The service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Officiating will be Reverend Darby Nace. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ralph's name to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604.
