Gertie L. (Snelbaker) O'Dell, 79, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017, surrounded by her family. She is now home with her Lord and Savior after having a brief illness. She was the wife of Charles A. O'Dell, with whom she celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary in May 2016.They were very much dedicated to each other, and did everything together.
Mrs. O'Dell was born in Manchester, Tuesday, June 1, 1937, daughter of the late Luther L. and Mary A. (Biller) Snelbaker.
Gertie was a seamstress for various sewing factories. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed doing yard work, walking with friends, going to church, and spending time with her family as they were all very important to her.
She was a member of The Church of the Open Door, York, where she enjoyed singing with the Joyful Sound.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Cindy L. Lashley and her husband, Ralph of Dover, and Ricky L. O'Dell and his wife, Barbara of Crossville, TN; four grandchildren, Brandy L. O'Dell of San Francisco, CA, Justin L. Lashley and his wife, Jocelyn of Camp Hill, Erica L. Reilly and her husband, Kevin of York, and Cara L. O'Dell and her companion, John King of Crossville, TN; three great-grandchildren, Ava, Brogan, and Decklin Reilly; siblings, Clarence Snelbaker and his wife, Peggy of York, Mae Zeigler of Manchester, Emma Jane Sanger of York, Luther Snelbaker, Jr. of Manchester, Jay Snelbaker, Jr. of Manchester, Mary Stump of Stewartstown, Larry Snelbaker and his wife, Patricia of York, Judy Ewell of York, Betty Emminger and her husband, Edwin of York, Shirley Crone of Dover, Wayne Snelbaker and his wife, Debra of Dover, and Patti Renfrew and her husband, John of East Berlin; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several siblings, Viola Kerrigan, Harold, Ray, and Jimmy Snelbaker.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, February 16, 2017, at the Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Ct., York. Officiating will be her pastor, Pastor Don Wagner. Final resting place will be Suburban Memorial Gardens, Dover. Viewing will be prior to the service, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., at the church.
