John Petrick, Jr.

John Petrick, Jr., died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at his residence at Normandie Ridge. He was born in Helvetia, PA on May 26, 1919, the son of John and Julia (Flasher) Petrick, and baptized in the Greek (Byzantine Rite) Catholic Church. He was the husband of Elizabeth "Betty" (Russell) Petrick, whom he married in 1961. After graduating from Sykesville High School in 1937, John followed his father and grandfathers to work in the coal mine. When WWII broke out, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. His experience in the mine as a member of the first aid and rescue team earned him a place in the medical corps. John proudly served in the Pacific Theater until 1946, retiring as a Chief Pharmacist Mate. After leaving the military, John was employed by PA State Health Department as a Sanitary Inspector, a job in which he traveled state-wide. He was later employed by MS Eisenhart Construction as a salesman. After the company was purchased by Rogele Inc., John was named vice-president and manager of the York branch, York Concrete Septic Tanks.
After his retirement in 1986, John and Betty built and tended a lovely garden, which they loved to share. John also enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He and Betty enjoyed walking every morning, they also liked to travel, especially to the American West and winter vacations in Florida. John and betty moved to Normandie Ridge Senior Living Community in 2013 where they enjoyed many friends, and a cozy apartment.
He was predeceased by three brothers and one sister. In addition to his wife, John is survived by five nieces; two nephews; and their extended families.
John was a member of the West York VFW and the Harrisburg Mannerchoir.
A memorial service will be held 11 am, Thursday, July 27, 2017, at St. Rose of Lima R.C. Church, where he was a member. Interment will be immediately afterwards in Holy Savior Cemetery with honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 950 W.
