Helen Baker

YORK - Helen A. (Paules) Baker, 96, passed away Friday, August 31, 2018 at Country Meadows of Leaders Heights. She was the wife of David H. Baker Jr., who died on December 22, 2000.

Mrs. Baker was born in Dover Twp. on October 20, 1921, daughter of the late Clarence E. and Ada C. (Bupp) Paules.

She was a graduate of Dover Area High School, Class of 1939.

Helen was a member of the former Bethany United Church of Christ and it's Women's Guild, which is now Faith United Church of Christ, York.

She was a Cub Scout Den Mother and a Girl Scout Leader. Helen loved volunteer work. She was an American Red Cross volunteer at Memorial Hospital for over 40 years.

Survivors include, a son, Jeffery L. Baker and his wife, Connie of Mt. Joy and a daughter, Patricia A. McIlvaine and her husband, Richard of Dallastown, two grandchildren, Melinda P. Bertling and her husband, Robert and Derek A. Baker and his wife, Erin, four great grandchildren, Audrey J. and Linus O. Bertling and Corbin T. and Marcus D. Baker.

There will be a graveside service 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 6, 2018 in Shiloh Union Cemetery, Rt. 74 and Church Rd., York (Shiloh). Officiating will be her pastor, Rev. Dr. Ron Oelrich. All planning to attend, please meet in the cemetery parking lot by 10:45 a.m.

At the request of the family, please make memorial contributions to Helen's favorite charity, Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership Fund, Central PA HOBY, P.O. Box 8743, Lancaster, PA 17604.

Arrangements were entrusted to the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc., York (Shiloh).

As a long time employee of Memorial Hospital, I have many fond memories of Helen. Helen was a joy to work with and very dedicated to volunteering! To her family, find comfort in knowing Helen was loved, appreciated by many and definitely lives on in our memories! Lois Diller

I had the pleasure of knowing Helen for many years, she volunteered for our Pharmacy Department at Memorial Hospital , she was one of a kind , she was truly missed when she was no longer able to come to the hospital. My thoughts and deepest sympathy are with her family at this time of her passing ..
