Elsie "Arlene" Rinehart Obituary
SHREWSBURY Elsie "Arlene" (Singleton) Rinehart, 68, died Friday, October 12, 2012, at York Hospital. She was the wife of Robert Franklin Rinehart. The couple would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on December 2, 2012. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 18, from Christ Lutheran Church, 105 S. Main St., Shrewsbury, with the Rev. Dione M. Klepetka officiating. Viewings will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, both at the church. Interment will be in New Freedom Cemetery. Born March 17, 1944, in Baltimore, Md., Arlene was the daughter of the late Garfield N. and Elsie M. (Easter) Singleton. Arlene attended Hereford High School in Baltimore, Md., and was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Shrewsbury, where she was actively involved in many church functions. She was also a member of the Guilding Circle at church. Arlene volunteered at the Southern District Food Pantry when it was in the New Freedom Community Center. She was very passionate in volunteering with the organization known as S.O.A.R. (Support Our American Recruits) in York. Arlene was employed as a cashier at Saubel's Market in Shrewsbury for 12 years. She also was employed as a nursery worker at Radebaugh's in Freeland, Md., The Farmer's Daughter in Shrewsbury, and Miller's Plant Farm in York. In addition to her husband, Arlene is survived by three children, Robert F. Rinehart, Jr. and his wife, Lynn, John M. Rinehart, and Barbara S. Klein and her husband, Richard, all of York. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Matthew, Jordan, Michael, Amanda, Josh, and Kyle; one sister, Sarah L. Cox of Reisterstown, Md.; and one brother, Harvey Lee Singleton of Sykesville, Md. She was preceded in death by one brother, Bobby Singleton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to S.O.A.R., P.O. Box 82, Seven Valleys, PA 17360; or to Christ Lutheran Church, 105 S. Main St., Shrewsbury, PA 17361. J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, is in charge of the arrangements.
