Dr. Felix DeMoise Obituary
WYOMISSING Dr. Felix DeMoise, 91, formerly of York, died Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at The Highlands of Wyomissing. He was the husband of K. Ann (Getty) DeMoise who died on June 11, 2011. Dr. DeMoise was born in Philadelphia on May 27, 1921, a son of the late Joseph T. and Elizabeth (Witco) DeMoise. He was a retired self-employed Chiropractor. He also previously worked at the Ebensburg and Harrisburg State Hospitals. Dr. DeMoise volunteered his services at the Philadelphia Athletic Club once a week. Felix received a copyright from the Library of Congress for his work on the tension pattern of the spine. Felix was a graduate of South Greensburg High School and attended Westminster College on an athletic scholarship. He graduated from York Junior College and the Palmer College of Chiropractic. At Westminster College he was the Vice President of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Marine Corp and served in the Pacific Theatre. Dr. DeMoise was formerly a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and later attended Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Felix was a former member of the York Kiwanis Club and managed the Kiwanis Boys Band. Dr. DeMoise was a member of the Davenport Lodge #37 F&AM and attended meetings with the York Lodge #266 F&AM. Other Masonic organizations include York Forest #30, Tall Cedars of Lebanon; Zembo Temple; York Gethsemane Commandery #21, Knights Templar; and the First Capital High Twelve Club #668. He was active with the YMCA, YWCA and the York Heritage Trust. He was the past president of the York-Springetts Chapter #3400 AARP. In the late 30's and early 40's he along with his twin brother were semi-professional tap dancers. Dr. DeMoise is survived by a daughter, Abby Sue Schappell and husband Gery of Hamburg; a grandson, Jonathan Michael Schappell and wife Corinne (Lord) Schappell of Leesport; a great-grandson, Colin Michael Schappell; and two nephews, Thomas and Michael DeMoise of the Pittsburgh area. He was preceded in death by a twin brother, Joseph DeMoise. A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery with Military Rites provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Masonic services provided by York Lodge #266 F&AM will be 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A viewing will be Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salvation Army, 50 E. King St., York, PA 17401.
