Harold L. Wire Obituary
DOVER Harold Leroy Wire, 99, entered into rest at 7:07 a.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2013, at his home. He was the husband of the late Hazel K. (Mummert) Wire. They were married 65 years. Born June 26, 1914, in York, he was a son of the late Harvey A. and Evelyn I. (Shellenberger) Wire. Harold proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 24 years in Europe and Hawaii. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 660th Field Artillery Battalion and the VII Corps Artillery First Army. Harold was the First Army retired recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and also received the ETO Campaign Medal with two Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He also served in the Army Reserve. Harold had three years of service with the Pennsylvania State Guard and worked for St. Regis - Schmidt & Ault for 37 years. He was a member of Mount Royal U.M. Church where he attended Sunday School. He was also a member of Dover AARP and Union Fire & Hose Co. #1, Dover, and a life member of West Manchester Fish & Game. Harold is survived by three daughters, Harriet Langione and husband, Ramon of York, Barbara Kinsey and husband, Harold of Springfield, and Roxana Hoffman and husband, David of Dover; four sons, Harold L. Wire, Jr. and wife, Carol of Thomasville, John W. Wire and wife, Carol of Glenville, Larry Wire and wife, Joann, and Clifford S. Wire and wife, Tammy, all of York; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Doris Sindlinger of York. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Bernice Wire, Charlotte Schrum and Carolyn Heilman, and a brother, Kenneth Wire. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Harold's funeral at 11 a.m. and the viewing from 10-11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Mount Royal U.M. Church, 6451 Old Carlisle Rd., Dover. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery where veteran's honors will be presented by York County Veterans Honor Guard. Officiating will be his pastor, the Rev. Matthew J. Loyer. Emig Funeral Home, Dover, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Mount Royal U.M.
