Connie S. Coppage

YORK Connie S. Coppage, 69, of Spring Garden Township, formerly of Pittsburgh, died at 7:55 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late John R. Coppage III. Born October 25, 1944, in Anderson, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Emmett Sanders and the late Bernice (Stewart) Newberry. She graduated from the University of Tennessee with a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Connie was a passionate advocate of learning and spent the lion's share of her career as an admissions counselor helping others to pursue their goals in higher education. She was a strong, vibrant, independent woman of grace who never flinched in the face of adversity and whose compassion served all those who knew her. She loved being a "Grammy" to her grandchildren more than anything in the world and valued family above all. She will be dearly, dearly missed. Mrs. Coppage is survived by a son, John R. "Bob" Coppage IV, and his wife Laura, of York; a daughter, Katherine A. "Kate" Coppage, and her husband Timothy Pedder, of York; and six grandchildren, John R. "Bobby" Coppage V, Taylor M. Coppage, Matthew J. Coppage, Samantha Coppage, Ethan Coppage and Kate Coppage. A viewing will be held 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Kuhner Associates Funeral Directors, Inc., 863 S. George St., York. Burial will be in Brookfield Cemetery, Brookfield, Ohio. Connie was a voracious reader and lover of books.
