Ellen Bungard(1924 - 2020)

Bungard Ellen MBE 1924-2020

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Ellen Bungard (née Parry) of Swinton Mexborough,
on 30th December 2020
at the age of 96.

The youngest and last surviving of 5 siblings, she was always, until the last few years, a thoroughly independent and active individual from her early days covering the length and breadth of the country on a tandem bicycle with her late husband, George, through her lasting involvement with the Scouting movement, on to the work she did more recently supporting many charitable endeavours.

For some years until shortly before its closure in 2012, Ellen became involved with Hickleton Hall Care Home (it had become a Sue Ryder Home in the 1960s). In June 2005, after being proposed by former work colleagues in recognition of her dedication, she was awarded an MBE for services to the Home and to the community.

Until her final illness a few weeks before her death, Ellen, a proud, indomitable Yorkshirewoman, lived independently. She will be very much missed by family and friends.

There will be a private cremation service to be followed later in the year, when pandemic restrictions can be eased, by a public memorial church service.
