Sarita Rainey

FRAZEYSBURG - Dr. Sarita Ruth Rainey, 88, passed away Tuesday morning, September 11, 2018 at the Middleton Care Center in Granville, Ohio.

Born April 13, 1930 in Youngstown, Ohio she was the daughter of the late Jack and Ruth (Johnston) Rainey. She graduated from Kent State University and she also received degrees from Columbia University and Fairleigh Dickinson University in the field of art and art design. Sarita's career took her to New Jersey and Connecticut to live. She was a practicing artist until her retirement and then she gave art instructions. She retired to Naples, Florida and lived there for over 27 years.

In addition to being an artist, Sarita designed and made jewelry and fabric. She lectured on art and design and published six books on various kinds of art. She held the position of editor and consultant on many art projects over her career. Sarita studied enameling in Norway and Denmark and textiles in England and won the American Film Award for her slide presentation. Her art exhibitions include the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC, the Contemporary Craft Museum in New York City and the New York's World Fair.

Sarita grew up in South Zanesville and the Frazeysburg area and her late uncle was Max Johnston of Frazeysburg. She was a devoted daughter to her mother, Ruth. Her love of animals came right after her passion for art and her home always had dogs, cats and even rabbits over the years. Sarita never forgot her small town upbringing. She was a generous, kind and caring person to all.

Surviving are several second cousins and her beloved dog, Che Che. She will be missed by her family, her friends and Che Che.

There will be calling hours for one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be 2:30pm Sunday, September 16, 2018 at the Frazeysburg Chapel of Vensil & Chute Funeral Home, 110 West Third Street. Pastor Paul Hansen will officiate. Burial will be in Frazeysburg Cemetery at a later date.

Friends and family are invited back to the home of Cinda Wilson of Frazeysburg after the funeral to celebrate the life of Sarita.
