ZANESVILLE: Ronald E. Rittberger, 69, went to be with the Lord at 3:00 pm on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Genesis Good Samaritan CCU with his family by his side. His death followed a brief illness.

Ron was born in Zanesville, OH, on August 22, 1944. He was the son of Harry F. Rittberger and Evelyn E. (Winters) Rittberger.

Ron is survived by his son Blair (Troy) Rittberger of Zanesville; a granddaughter, Brittany Rittberger of Boston; and a grandson, Jason Rittberger of Zanesville; he leaves a very dear friend Sandy Rittberger, who was his loving wife for 49 years; Ron had two brothers and two sisters, Jo Ann Jones, Bob (Marilyn) Rittberger of Solon, Jim (Rosie) Rittberger, and Sherri McElfresh; Ron was a special uncle to Doug Jones of Akron, Bob (Paige) Rittberger of Long Island, Chris (Christy) Rittberger of Chicago, Erica McElfresh, Wendy (Brian) Gadd, and Shawn Edwards. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is also survived by many cousins, special friends, and his beloved dog Holly.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Evelyn Rittberger; his daughter Sally Rittberger Darst; and two nephews Mike Jones and Zack McElfresh.

Ron was a faithful member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church. From a very early age, Ron worked several years with his father at Carl Rittberger Sr. Inc. Meats. He retired in 1997 as Plant Manager. Ron loved animals, especially his dog Holly, who went everywhere with him. He enjoyed carpentry work, working on vehicles, fishing, watching football, and playing cards with his family.

Friends may call from 4 pm to 8 pm on Monday, April 07, 2014, at the Bryan & Snider Funeral Home where funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, April 08, 2014, with Pastor Mark Matzke officiating. Burial will conclude at the Zanesville Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Muskingum County Animal Shelter Society or to Trinity Lutheran Church.
