NEWARK: A funeral service celebrating the life of Calvin Richard "Dick" Wisecarver, age 71, of Newark, will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral and Cremation Service with Pastor Tom Myers officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Licking County Veterans Alliance.

Dick passed away August 8, 2014 at his home of natural causes. He was born May 28, 1943 in Zanesville to the late Ambrose and Elizabeth (Quinn) Wisecarver.

Dick spent 21 ½ years in the United States Air Force and 18 years with the United States Post Office. After retiring, he worked as a Home Health Aide for nine years. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, word searches and card playing. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. Dick especially loved his family, spending time with his grandchildren and Akira, his dog.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sheila L. (Nice) Wisecarver, whom he married April 13, 1974; four children, Frances (Scott) Lennon of Grove City, Richard (Michelle) Wisecarver of Cincinnati, Justin (Tara) Wisecarver of Newark, Shavonne (Michael) Cleghon of Thornville; grandchildren, Conor and Sean Lennon, Braden and Madison Wisecarver and Jackson Wisecarver; step-grandchildren, Alicia Thompson, Leah and Seryna Cleghon; step-great-granddaughter, Lily Thompson; sister-in-law, Jay Wisecarver; brother-in-law, Paul Sands; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by siblings, James Wisecarver, Eva (Buck) Rodgers, Alice (Raymond) Pierce, Christina Sands, Charles (Mary) Wisecarver and Garnet "Toby" Allen.

Friends may call prior to the service from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, at the Newark Chapel of Henderson-Van Atta-Stickle Funeral & Cremation Service, 59 North Fifth Street, Newark.
