David,
I never knew you, but as a fellow passionate aviation lover, I feel a connection to you. I, too, gaze towards the sky when I hear the roar of Rolls Royce RB2-11 engines. I also took flying lessons, but soon decided I prefer to be a passenger! The 757 & 767s that you flew are becoming more & more of a rare sight these days, being retired. Airbus are nice aircraft, but "if it aint Boeing, I aint going" right?!
I'm so sorry you were taken away so cruelly, but you have clearly left a wonderful legacy to all those who knew you.
Sending love to you and your family & friends, from Scotland/ Ecosse.
X

David,
I have been watching documentaries again about that horrific day so many years ago. Hard to believe it's been almost 22 years. I enjoyed our many conversations we had while working out at our old gym on U Street NW. You were such a sweet friend, and it still haunts me when I think about seeing you on Monday, September 10th and you letting me know you had an early morning flight the next morning to LAX. I was looking forward to our next workout a few days later when you returned.
You were taken from us way to early, but you live in all of our hearts, I am still a loyal AA flyer and every time I board an AA plane, I look into the cockpit and wish you were there welcoming us aboard with that beautiful smile.
I just wanted to tell you that I still miss you!
Your friend,
Stephen Joshua Goolsby

This is a bit difficult to explain, but I felt a very special connection since I learned a little more about Captain Charlebois. Two days ago it was the 20th anniversary of his farewell and I wanted to pay him a very special tribute together with the flight attendant Betty Ong.
I only heard about David Charlebois many years after September 11, 2001, but today I feel happy even without having met him for having the opportunity to remember him and honor his memory. I have a profile on instagram: @dzghub and there I posted this photo on the 20th anniversary of 911 in honor of Captain Charlebois. I want to send my regards to his sister Denise and his partner Tom.
Thank you

Just want to say thank you from our family to all who write entries here! It's precious to read rememberences of David! He loved flying from when he was very little and we would bring my Dad to the Dulles for his work trips. David would stop with his notebook and take notes as we walked inside the airport. Then we'd always go outside and watch for Dad's plane until it was out of sight. It was a dream come true to fly! He cherished all of you! He was the best of us and we love and miss him dearly! Mom and Dad are with David now. It is my older brother and I, our children and grandchildren (who know all about Uncle David), and David's partner. We love and honor David, keep his memory alive. Thank you for sharing memories and even just that you remember! It helps, as we will never forget. We love you David!!

David,
I remembered you yesterday, on the 11th anniversary. I talked with my son Joel about you, and how you were a friend when we were in high school. I talked about your love of flying, even when you were in your teens, and what a great person you were. It is important to remember that events that are now 'historical' involved real, wonderful people such as yourself. Joel was still 5 months away from being born on that terrible day...but I want him to know that real people died on September 11th, and one of them was you, my old friend.

I have had a Mercy Band with David's name since around Thanksgiving 2001. Putting it on every day is as automatic as putting on my pants. The band is for Bearing Another's Name Daily. There wasn't much I could do from Albuquerque in the days after 9/11, but I chose David (and I did ask for his band) to remember daily as my tribute to those who died. I view him as my personal guurdian angel, not just when I fly, but just living my life in general. He seemed like a great person and hope to meet him when my time comes. To those who knew and loved him, his name and memory continue to bring comfort and guidence, at least to me.

I had the privilege of meeting David in Rehoboth Beach about two weeks before 09/11/01. He and his partner were introduced to me through other friends who have a home there.
