Joan died peacefully on 2nd March 2026, aged 94. She was born in Clitheroe and attended the Grammar School before going to the Quaker School in Ackworth. She led a full and happy life, and was especially proud of her role in establishing the first community-based psychiatric services in Blackburn. She will be missed by her husband Ian, and by her four children,
six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Joan asked that any donations in her memory should be made to Médecins
Sans Frontières.
