David GILLON Obituary

A service at St Paulinus' Church, New Ollerton, preceded burial at the town's cemetery of Mr David Gillon (70), Greenwood Crescent, Boughton.
Born at Radcliffe, Northumberland, and educated at Amble, Northumberland, Mr Gillon had been a local resident for 47 years.
Until retiring in 1994 after 41 years' service, he worked as a general foreman for a number of mining companies and was involved with the development of coalfaces, including Ollerton Colliery.
A founder-member of the Sunday Lunchtime Club, which raises money for local causes including the Whitewater Centre, Mr Gillon organised the Christmas party for the centre for many years - often dressing as Santa and distributing gifts. A loyal supporter of the National Union of Mineworkers, he enjoyed spending time with his mum, sisters, children, grandchildren, nephews and nieces, socialising with his friends, looking after his carp, solving crosswords, holidays abroad and weekends away with friends.
Mr Gillon, who died at his home, leaves his sons, David, Keith and Roy, daughters Julie and Karen, eight grandchildren, his mother, Mrs H. Gillon, of Boughton, and his sisters, Patricia and Linn.
