G. MELLORS Obituary

A guard of honour was
formed by members of the
Royal British Legion at the
service at Mansfield crematorium
chapel, which preceded
cremation of Mr Geoffrey
Mellors (88), who was
a resident of Avalon Care
Centre, Forest Town. During
the service the coffin
was draped with the Union
flag and two standard bearers
were in attendance.
A life-long local resident,
Mr Mellors was born at Baxter
Hill Farm, Pleasley, and
educated at Skegby School.
He was a farm labourer when he first left school, then
he worked for the Co-op before joining the Black Watch
Regiment at the age of 19, then finally working at Mansfield
Colliery until retiring.
A keen gardener, Mr Mellors had two allotments. He
also enjoyed going out for meals, going around the park
on his scooter, talking to people and going on holiday.
Mr Mellors, who died at King's Mill Hospital, Sutton,
leaves his son, Barry, two grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.

A. Haywood, Mr and Mrs K. Marshall.
Representing Avalon Care Centre were Mrs D. Gilberthorpe,
Mr N. Rewson, Mr N. Ford.
Representing the Royal British Legion were Mr K.
Hunter, Mr and Mrs E. Rutland, Mrs D. Spencer, Mr E.
Whittaker, Mr L. Mann, Mr K. Kenworthy, Mr K. Matthews,
Mr J. Martin (Mansfield), Mr D. Lewis, Mr D.
Lewis.
The service was conducted by the Rev J. Pulman, and
arrangements were by Co-operative Funeralcare.
