Many friends joined the family of Jeff Dykes (85), of North Street, Huthwaite, for the service at All Saints' Church, Huthwaite, which preceded burial at the local cemetery.
Life-long local resident Mr Dykes was born in Huthwaite and educated locally at the John Davis and at Westbourne Secondary school, Sutton.
Mr Dykes worked at the CWS factory before joining the Royal Welsh Fusiliers during the Second World War, serving more than seven years in the armed forces. After the war Mr Dykes returned to the CWS factory, driving the lorries and helping with maintenance until he became their chauffeur. He then moved to Mansfield Traction Company driving local buses until retiring in 1981.
Mr Dykes, who lived life to the full, loved spending time with his family and the company of his friends. He was a committed Christian and an active member of All Saints' Church, Huthwaite, for many years. He had many varied interests, his first love being photography, and had a great passion for music throughout his life. He also enjoyed reading, walking in Derbyshire and other parts of Britain, woodwork and electrics and gardening - growing his own fuchsias and orchids - and day trips and holidays with Ian White, of White's Coaches.
Mr Dykes, who died at his home, leaves his wife, Mrs Joan Dykes, two sons, Mr Alan Dykes and Mr Jeff Dykes, daughter Mrs Christine Evans, 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
