J. TIPLADY Obituary

A service to celebrate the life of local cricket stalwart
John (Jack) Tiplady (89), was
held at St Mary's Church,
Blidworth, which preceded at
cremation at Mansfield. During
the service loving and amusing
tributes were paid by Mike
Collins, who spoke of "Jack at
work", David Marklew "Family
Jack" and Arthur Whitehead
"Jack at play".
Mr Tiplady, of Bramble
Lane, Mansfield, and latterly
of Woodleigh Christian Care
Home, Norfolk Drive, Mansfield,
was born at Greenside,
County Durham and educated
in Durham.
He worked in the mining industry
in the North East and South Yorkshire before joining
Mavor&Coulson asamining engineer, when he moved into
this area. He was then appointed European sales engineer,
based in Brussels for eight years. He moved back to Mansfield
in 1963 and worked as a sales engineer, specialising in
hydraulics and pneumatics before joining Abbey Life as a
financial adviser until his retirement in 1990.
For many years he and his wife Dorothy enjoyed holidays
at their caravan at Wells-next-the-Sea in Norfolk. He was
keen on all sports and was an active member of the Abbey
Life Golf Society and Melton Mowbray Golf Club but cricket
was his passion and while in Europe he played for Brussels
Cricket Club.
Locally he played for Blidworth Colliery Welfare CC and
served as secretary, chairman and finally president, a position
he held until his death. He was honoured to be the president
of the Bassetlaw Cricket League in 1992.
Mr Tiplady, who died at Woodleigh Christian Nursing
Home, leaves Dorothy, his wife of 58 years, son Mark and
daughter-in-law Pat, daughter Pauline and son-in-law Tony.

Donations received in lieu were made to Friends of Woodleigh,
Blidworth CWCC and Macmillan.
The service was conducted by Mrs Marilyn Brown, the
organist was Gordon Foster, and arrangements were by J.W.
Hutchinson.
