R. Jake Cotterill

More than 400 mourners - including many bikers - joined together for the service at St Paulinus' Church, New Ollerton, which preceded burial at the town's cemetery of motorbike enthusiast Mr Jake Cotterill (56), of Tuxford Road, Boughton, who was buried next to his daughter, Tara. Steve Lainsbury - Mr Cotterill's friend - rode his Harley Davidson bike in front of the funeral procession to the church, which was then followed by 30-40 bikers including many Hell's Angels. As the funeral cortege entered the church 'You Are My Destiny' by Lionel Ritchie was played and they left to Rod Stewart's 'Maggie May.' Mr Cotterill's wife, Debra, son Jason, three friends and a nephew acted as pallbearers and during the service Mrs Cotterill read her personal eulogy to her husband on the day that they should have celebrated their silver wedding anniversary. At the graveside his grandson, Owen, released a helium balloon and together with his son, Jason, they also released six pigeons. Born at Southwell and educated at Dukeries Comprehensive School, Ollerton, Mr Cotterill had lived locally for most of his life. Originally he was a miner, working at Bilsthorpe and latterly Harworth collieries, before becoming a sheet metal worker at Boughton Industrial Cladding Ltd. He enjoyed pigeon racing and playing pool and snooker with his friends, but his main love was his motor bikes, days out on his Harley Davidson and being with his family. Mr Cotterill, who died as a result of a road traffic accident on the A614, leaves his wife, Mrs Debra Lynne Cotterill, son Jason, his 2½-year-old grandson, Owen McCree, and his mother, Mrs Lil Cotterill, of Bilsthorpe. Joyce from Bromley Developments. Floral tributes and donations were from the above, family, friends and companies. The donations will be used for equipment for the children's ward at Bassetlaw District General Hospital, Worksop. The service was conducted by Canon R. Kirton, and arrangements were by New Ollerton Co-operative Funeralcare.
